Imaginary Planetary Walk

Join the Friends in a walk through the solar system in Cedarbrook Park! We will meet in the Community Centre parking lot, and then begin our walk at the picnic shelter with the Sun, or at least an object that represents it. Then we will walk to each of the planets according to their distance from the Sun, keeping to the exact scale of our own “Sun”. At each planet stop, we will share some information about the planet and look an object that represents its size, relative to our “Sun”. You’ll be surprised by how much space there is in outer space! All welcome.

MomenTO Canada 150 is coming!

Keep on celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday! Join the Friends of Cedarbrook & Thomson Memorial Parks on Friday, August 11 at 7:00 PM for family fun, button-making, sports, music, and — at sunset — watch some of the best ever Canadian short films. All for free. Bring a blanket or lawn chair for sitting, water to drink, and a jacket in case it gets cool.

A little rain won’t stop us, but in case of a thunderstorm or heavy rain, this event will be postponed to September 22.

2 hours + 20 people = 40 bags of refuse cleaned up

On Saturday April 22, the Friends held their annual clean-up of the area around the Cedarbrooke Park community centre.  We had a great turnout from the friends group and the community.  We collected 22 bags of garbage , 18 bags of recyclable materials, and the usual assortment of unusual items.  The pictures tell the story:

Thanks to all who came out to the clean-up!

First Post

It’s not by accident that I have selected the park sign as an image for my first post.  The main purpose of this website is to help our community make good use of the wonderful parkland that is so close at hand:  From playgrounds and picnic areas, walking and biking trails, to historical sites and more,  we have it all in Cedarbrook and Thomson Memorial parks.
